Well, it appears that just because someone is beautiful on the outside, doesn't mean that their insides aren't rotten and evil. Retired tennis star Anna Kournikova disliked something she saw on a recent Miami Beach outing. A Surfer with his dog and no leash. It appears Ms. Kournikova chose to showcase her lady-like class by shouting "That dog should be on a f**king leash". Well, Mr. Surfer snapped back, "Maybe YOU should be on a f**king leash!" The things that make you go hmm..At least Ms. Kournikova was modest enought to at least appear embarassed while passers-by cheered the surfer on. Her spokesperson chose not to comment on Ms. Kournikova's anti-dog rants.

Dog Owner Rescues Dog, Then Performs CPR (He shoulda bought a Skamper-Ramp!)

Sam, a 6 year old Labrador Retriever, nearly drowned in owner Devin Thomas' pool. Mr. Thomas rescued the dog and then performed CPR. "I clamped his mouth shut and blew down his nostrils," said Mr. Thomas, who admitted he didn't really know what to do. Dr. Harold Krug, Sam's veterinarian, said Mr. Thomas' actions probably helped save the dog's life. He added that moving the dog also probably helped. THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN. FDA THEORY SUGGESTS PET FOOD INTENTIONALLY TAINTED

The Food and Drug Administration has announced that they are investigating the possibility that the recent tainted gluten ingredients may possibly have been purposely spiked with an industrial chemical to boost it's apparent protein content. So far, melamine's been found in both wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate imported from China. Media reports from South Africa suggest a third pet food ingredient, corn gluten, used in that country also was contaminated with melamine. That tainted ingredient has not been found in the United States, the FDA said.

FDA investigators are awaiting visas that will allow them to visit the Chinese plants where the vegetable protein ingredients were produced.

"Melamine was found in all three of those - it would certainly lend credibility to the theory that it may be intentional. That will be one of the theories we will pursue when we get into the plants in China," Stephen Sundlof, the FDA's chief veterinarian, told reporters.

Dog Owners Can Be Charged With Murder??

San Francisco, CA-Six years ago, a woman, aged 33, was attacked and mauled to death by a pair of Presa Canarios(basically, HUGE Pitbull/Mastiff look alikes, pictured below). Her owner, Marjorie Knoller(pictured), was convicted of 2nd degree murder. However, a judge later threw out that conviction. An appeals court later re-instated her conviction, and she has appealed to the California Supreme Court. State Deputy Atty. Gen. Amy E. Haddix contends that dozens of aggressive acts by the dogs made Knoller aware that they could be deadly and satisfied the requirements for what is called an "implied malice" murder — when the killer has no intent to kill but acts with a conscious disregard of life and the knowledge that his conduct endangers people. "If you anticipate that level of danger to human life, it doesn't matter that you might hope you could intervene," Haddix said. "The risk is great enough that you are on the hook for the worst possible result." When the court renders it's decision, it could be monumental in setting precedences for guilt associated with un-intentional killings. What do you think? Now I know we're not the first people in the world to realize that this entire season, 80's Pop Icon turned NYC Sanitation "Volunteer" Boy George is making great strides on Idol. All we're sayin' is that the resemblance between Miss(ter) George and actual Idol contestant Phil Stacey(who has favored songs by Celine Dion and LeAnn Rimes) look remarkably similar, sometimes even in demeanor and lip quiver-the latter just minus lashes & lip gloss. Now, no disrespect meant to Boy George, she's a musical legend and we know this, we're just sayin, lQQk. :)

Doggie Gas Chamber Survivor

Everyone meet Quentin aka "The Miracle Dog". In August of 2003, 8 dogs that were slated for euthanization were placed in the gas chamber. When the doors were opened, Quentin, defying all odds, stood there, still alive. Quentin has since become a sort of celebrity in his own right, eating snacks and sippin Doggie Brew with the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Mary Tyler Moore and many others. Quentin's owner, Randy Grim, wrote a book about Quentin's ordeal and their presence and activism helped St. Louis, Missouri adopt a no-kill policy. Mr. Grim (and Quentin) founded Stray Rescue. The Stray Rescue of St. Louis is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter rescuing abused, neglected and abandoned animals and placing them in loving adoptive homes. In "Year Of The Dog", Molly Shannon(SNL, Superstar) plays a lonely, middle-aged woman who finds dogs are the only beings she can truly rely on. (Any Dog Lover coulda told her that!) This is a comedy, of course, and the movie is receiving some pretty good reviews. Royal Canin, a Pet-Food Manufacturing company based in France, has issued a recall of it's products following a mysterious illness suffered by close to 20 dogs who's only common link is the food. Vets' Choice Dog Food, sold only in Vet's Offices, is being recalled pending testing to try to determine the cause of the animals' inflictions. Full Story Here. The food recall is worldwide, but the illness seems to so far have only affected animals in the country of South Africa. Also, retailer Woolworth's has recalled all their self-branded pet foods due to possible contamination. Enough is enough people. We feed our dogs nothing but Flint River Ranch pet foods. Anyone for some Tongue? I know it appears that we here at Toughpups.com have a tongue fetish, but I promise you we don't.

I came across this picture of Brandy, a Boxer. It seems Brandy was born with an abnormally long tongue(ya think?)-17 inches abnormal to be exact. That's right, her tongue is 17" long! She is the current record holder for the World's Longest Tongue on a dog (Gene Simmons from Kiss phoned to argue, but when he realized she was a dog, he bowed out). Brandy is also the winner of the PaxTV Ugliest Dog Contest. She's cute, she just has a huge tongue! Now does that make her ugly?

Heating Your Home With Poo?

While surfing the net recently I came across this story from our neighbors in Canada, Vancouver to be more exact. It seems they have laws banning the placing of Fido's "business" in trash receptacles or any other place that would have it end up in the public landfill. They also aren't too keen on Dog owners flushing it down the toilet. So, their solution? Turn Fido's poo into home heating fuel. Some people think this idea stinks. (sorry, couldn't resist), and some can see it as a real possibility. I know i'll be payin' close attention and if the concept does take hold, I'm gonna run out and get a whole herd of Great Danes.
